Sandridge Community Center Fire Update
August 2021 Update: Sandridge Community Center Fire
To our Valued Patrons:
As you already know, on Monday, June 14, 2021, we experienced a fire at the Sandridge Community Center. The fire caused extensive damage. We wanted to take this opportunity update you on the status of the Sandridge Community Center.
We are still in Phase I, the clean-up phase. All furniture, carpeting, flooring, and ceiling panels have been removed. The next phase is the abatement phase where all the floors and walls will be stripped and cleaned. After that will be the biggest part of the project, the removal and installation of the entire roof on the fitness side of the building..
The timetable for the opening of Sandridge is as follows:
- The Sandridge Recreation side of the building is tentatively scheduled to re-open on Tuesday, September 7 for recreation programming (open gym, basketball leagues, spin classes, etc.)
- The pool is tentatively scheduled to re-open Monday, September 27 for aquatic programming (swim lessons, open swim, and water aerobics). All patrons must enter the pool through the rear entrance and use the pool locker rooms.
As of this date, the timetable for the opening of the Sandridge Fitness Center and the Fitness side of the building is tentatively set for May of 2022. All members can continue to use the South Holland Community Center located at 501 E. 170th St. Their phone number is 708/331-2940.
We thank you for your support and for your patience during this time and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
